The design of the "Gaisma" cinema building began in 1946, with construction starting in 1950. By December 1951, the building was completed and opened its doors to cinema lovers in Valmiera and all guests of the city.

In 2006, the current owners took over management of the cinema and upgraded the hall, creating new seating and modernizing the sound and image quality.

Cinema "Gaisma" holds the distinction of being the oldest cinema in Latvia, continuously operating under the same name in the same building through various political changes..

In 2012, "Gaisma" became the first cinema outside the capital to switch to digital projection and to introduce Dolby 3D format, previously only available in Riga. As the cinema evolved, a decision was made to change its name and visual identity from "Gaisma" to "3D Cinema".

Despite the closure during 2020-2021, "3D Cinema" used this time to enhance its technical capabilities, making it an even more comfortable and pleasant venue for visitors.

Today, "3D Cinema" is a modern facility featuring a large screen, a powerful 7.1 Dolby surround sound system, and 152 comfortable seats arranged over four levels. The cinema has transitioned to a fully digital format, equipped with four displays in the foyer to keep visitors informed of the latest cinema news.

Located in Valmiera, this cinema offers the latest films in both 2D and 3D formats, providing high image and sound quality for an immersive viewing experience.

"3D Cinema" focuses on delivering exceptional image and sound quality by installing the most advanced equipment and continually improving its offerings. The cinema strives to present current films as soon as possible, enhancing the culture of cinema attendance.

The venue’s layout allows for the screening of various film genres, exclusive concerts, and broadcasts of opera, ballet performances, and sports events, catering to a wide range of tastes.

3D technology

At "3D Cinema," you can also experience films in 3D format.

Terms of Use for 3D Glasses:

• Before the screening, you will receive 3D glasses from the cinema staff.

• After the screening, please return the 3D glasses to the staff.

• Inspect the 3D glasses upon receipt. If you notice any defects, report them to the staff immediately for an exchange. Any defects reported after entering the cinema will be considered the customer's responsibility.

• It is advised not to touch the lenses of the 3D glasses, as this may damage them.

• A fine of €30 will be charged for damage or loss of the 3D glasses.
